I love it, I was gonna draw her since a long time ago but never got to it, anyway, and I apologize for getting in something that is "not my business" I saw your conversation with Caregan, and even though I respect Caregan deeply, I have to give you the reason on this, I myself admit that there is a thin line between Damsel in distress scenario and Kinky bondage sometimes but after all art means whatever the viewer wants it to mean, I've been accused of being pedophile myself just for drawing "clean" DiD pics of young girls, and as I always say, by those standards, Inspector Gadget would be raw porn,I understand people like their bondage in a kinky way, I draw some "playful" kinkiness myself mostly with my OC Natalia but it is mostly fun, as art should always be, of course that is my way of seeing things, not trying to offend anyone or go against anyone either, anything you do in your life will bother someone no matter what it is, keep up the beautiful work after all DA is just another place to share art.
i think what i said was fair - ericson knows i'm a fan of his work, and that i was just shocked to see this. if anyone else has a problem with that, maybe they could explain why they think mixing kink with children is a good idea.
So would you declare that if lethal assassin Hitgirl was trying to kill you, and your security guards captured her, you wouldn't tell them to also tie her up? The same goes for if Kim Possible raided your evil laboratory? The scene isn't real. Hitgirl isn't real. Real 12 year olds don't run around killing people with pistols and samurai swords. She is a make-believe character, and from the picture above, a fully-costumed make-believe character. Why not sound off on all the anime artists who draw scantily-clad or naked underage girls or catgirls or elfgirls or drowgirls tied up all over the place. Those are million times worse than this. At least Hitgirl above still has her clothes on. In fact, all of Eriksons subjects still have their clothes on! I think you tried to guilt-trip the wrong guy
my point is that even if there are innocent-sounding scenarios, given that the rest of ericson's art and this community in general is about bondage as a kink, how do you separate them and say "oh yes well while this picture over here is evidently meant to look sexy/explore a fetish/whatever, this other picture over here with an underaged character? oh, that's totally unrelated. that's just a perfectly logical situation which they might have got into which has nothing to do with any kind of bondage fetish. no sir!"
i see that your favourites, are full of plenty of bondage art which your comments indicate you find sexy. so what? cool. nowt wrong with that. but then you've also favourited this piece. so how am i to believe that your reasons for faving it are different? did you appreciate only the subtle shading and artistry of ericson's work and think "ah, this deserves a favourite for totally different reasons"? or did you just think "ooh, another bondage situation. fave" so tell me, why did you fave it?
i know the situation isn't "real" and i'm sure that there are many people who draw stuff which is worse, but that is completely irrelevant. i said what i said because i was shocked to see ericson, an artist i respect, drawing something which seemed so questionable, and i would not have thought that he would draw. we then discussed it like adults without trying to explain it away or shift the blame to anyone else as you are doing, and his answers seemed reasonable and i was happy with that.
Alot of people became interested in bondage/fetish stuff because of the sheer amount of perilous situations placed into media we ALL consumed from childhood to adulthood. Bondage is in everything from fairy tales, to innocent cartoons, to less innocent comic books, to harder & violent anime, and even horror and suspense movies - we have been subjected to countless scenes of peril and predicament before turning the age of 18. With that being said, how many times did April O'Neal get unnecessarily captured and tied up? Why didn't Shredder or some other Ninja Turtle enemy just kill her? Because she is a recurring character - so many characters are recurring characters, so if you want to put them into temporary peril tie them up. Then, have someone rescue them so they can escape to safety and return next episode. Is someone going to rescue Hit Girl in this picture? Kickass maybe? I don't know. Someone commissioned a picture of Hit Girl defeated and tied up. She isn't undressed and she isn't being sexually subjugated, so I don't see the fault. Mark Millar had her shooting and slicing up men in the graphic novel, should we be more alarmed by that notion or by this picture? I see she fought criminals and got captured, and who knows what is going to happen next. The next chapter gets written in the imagination. Does something bad happen to her? Do her and Kickass end up getting married? Who knows?
Asking me about my favorites, yes I appreciate good peril pictures. Technical merits aren't nearly as important as imagination merits. Any decent artist can draw a picture of a person tied up, but throwing in the other elements like bondage, and peril, and predicaments, and costumes, and things get interesting. Sometimes I favorite stuff for political reasons, sometimes I fave it because I don't know if I'm ready to start watching an artist and just want to keep tabs on them without the attachment. Why did I fave this one? Because it is high quality peril situation based on a violent popular media source I have consumed. If I was a skilled illustrator, instead of photographer + writer + musician + customizer, this is the kind I would love to be drawing.
If you are wondering if somebody out there right now is wanking to this, ask yourself this question - have you ever been walking through a park and been bitten by a dog? Alot of people have been bit by dogs, and alot of people haven't. Which means some people looking at this will, and some people won't. You can't control people's minds, just like you can't control unleashed dogs in a park. Stimulus is stimulating, but just how stimulating is Hit Girl whom is fully clothed from head to toe? Really, in costume she is more covered up than a nun! I'd theorize that there are private commissions out there, that will never see open release, of Hit Girl in far worse and indignified situations than the one above.
As far as shifting the blame, the very first thing you said to Erikson seemed like you were trying to shame him for drawing this. That you "thought better of you than this" sounds like standard shaming. Erikson can fight his own battles, I just find it peculiar you singled him out to complain against instead of X number of REALLY dirty anime artists. Did you have a naughty thought for Hit Girl? Were you trying to shift/project the shame of that naughty thought from yourself to Erikson? To be honest, I've looked at your gallery too, and I find it hard to believe that all the tied up girls you draw in pastel-colored bedrooms with school uniforms and/or bunny ears are over 18. It is just that none of your original characters are as well known as Hit Girl, so people can't point a finger and scream you are drawing underage. You have plausible deniability - with the exception being your aforementioned Temari pic, lol.
